MANICALAND hoteliers are intensifying efforts to market the province internationally, riding on a growing wave of domestic tourism support.

Speaking to journalists in Mutare ahead of the Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo, La Rochelle general manager Mr Regis Muchenje said the region has witnessed a steady increase in local tourism, particularly among the elderly.

“We do get international guests, they do come, but most of our guests are the old Caucasians that live in and around Zimbabwe,” said Mr Muchenje.

“They cherish this place so much and they love it, so that’s where we get most of our guests.

“We have also embarked on selling this destination to international markets.”

The world-class expo, organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), makes a bold return this year with renewed vigour, reaffirming its status as the country’s premier tourism trade showcase.

Thousands of local and international exhibitors, buyers, investors and media practitioners are expected to converge in Mutare, the new host city, in what is set to be a milestone event for Zimbabwe’s tourism sector.

Running under the theme “Devolving Sustainable Tourism Development — Our Future”, this year’s edition underscores Government’s commitment to inclusive economic growth through decentralisation of key national events and full exploitation of the country’s diverse tourism assets.
