Man’s body exhumed for post-mortem

The now deceased, Kudakwashe Maffoti, of Village Tizi, Chief Mazvihwa, had started complaining of stomach pains after he was allegedly struck by a stone in the abdomen by an unknown suspect on Christmas Day.

He died on 28 December and was buried on 29 December last year.

Police spokesperson for Midlands Province, Inspector Leonard Chabata, confirmed the incident.

He said Maffoti later succumbed to stomach pains and died on 28 December 2012 while on his way to Zvishavane District Hospital.

“He was then buried in Tizi Village on 29 December 2012, but his father, Mr Edison Maffoti, who was not present at the burial, recently returned home and requested that the body of his son be exhumed for a post-mortem,” he said.

Insp Chabata said police have since exhumed Kudakwashe’s body.

He said the matter was now being treated as that of suspected murder.

“The now deceased’s body was exhumed on Monday and has since been taken to the hospital for a post-mortem. Police are now treating the case as suspected murder and investigations are underway,” he said.
