Manyange laid to rest

Cde Manyange, whose liberation war name was David Masango, died last week at the Avenues Clinic after a short ill- ness.

He joined the liberation struggle in 1975 when he crossed into Mozambique for training at Chibawawa before he was transferred to Nachingweya in Tanzania for further training under the Sangamberi group.
Cde Manyange was later deployed to Tete Province where he started operating from Centenary.

He sustained injuries to his hands, legs and eyes in one of the numerous battles he fought in.
The injuries to his eyes were permanent, resulting in him receiving an artificial eye for the rest of his life.

Speaking at the burial, Mashonaland West Governor and Resident Minister Faber Chidarikire described Cde Manya-nge as a dedicated and courageous cadre who was unwavering in his support of the liberation ideals even after Independence.
“He served the country with honour and sacrifice and never left Zanu-PF even after Independence,” he said.

Also speaking at the burial, Zanu-PF Mashonaland West provincial chairman Cde Robert Sikanyika said the welfare of families of war veterans should be improved as they contributed to the independence and peace that is prevailing in the country.
National Consultative Assembly mem-ber Cde Shiela Mabasa, war veterans provincial chairperson Cde Takesure Chemhere, war veterans, friends and relatives attended the burial.
