WORLD Boxing Council international welterweight champion Charles Manyuchi has penned a five year contract with his Zambian promoters Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions who have already set up a fight against Russian Dmitry Mikhaylenko.
The fight has been set for May 6 in Russia, according to the boxer’s manager Chris Malunga of Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions.
Manyuchi, who has not fought since July 2015 when he defended his crown against Italian Friuli-Venezia Giulia, signed his contract on Tuesday this week in Zambia.
“Charles Manyuchi, the World Boxing Council (WBC) international welterweight champion arrived in the country (Zambia) on Tuesday 15th March, he has signed a contract of 5 years under OQBP,” said Malunga.
The next fight for Manyuchi is WBC welterweight silver title against a Russian boxer Dmitry Mikhaylenko on the 6th of May in Russia,” said Malunga in a statement to Chronicle Sport.
“The contract for the fight has been signed by both OQBP and the boxer and he (Manyuchi) remains in Zambia camping until departure for Russia,” added Malunga.
Manyuchi first became international WBC king in December 2014 when he floored Ghanaian Patrick Allottey in the eighth round and a month later, he again floored his challenger Columbian Devis Cassares in the third round.
His victory over the Italian in July last year saw President Mugabe give the boxer a $50 000 token of appreciation.
His Russian opponent has 21 victories over the same number of fights, nine of them through technical knockouts. On the other hand Manyuchi has 21 fights, 11 knockouts, two losses and one draw.
