FORMER WBC Silver welterweight title holder Charles Manyuchi will grace the Zimbabwe Boxing Federation (ZBF) organised national championships at Sizinda South Beer Garden today.

The tournament is set to attract more than 200 boxers from all the country’s 10 provinces as well as the Zimbabwe National Army and will see pugilists battling it out in the flyweight, bantamweight, light-welterweight, lightweight, middleweight, light-heavyweight, heavy and super heavyweight categories.

ZBF technical director Steven Masiyambumbi has urged pugilists to guard against complacency when they plunge into battle as the competition will be used to select a team to represent the country at next year’s international events.

“Manyuchi has arrived to motivate these young stars. I want to implore all boxers not to think much about what they have done in the past because it’s not going to be what one has achieved before.

“One’s performance during the day will have a big impact so every boxer must use this opportunity to market themselves. We are using this tournament to select boxers for international events so we expect full commitment from everyone,” said Masiyambumbi.

He said Highlanders’ treasurer Donald Ndebele, the owner of Sizinda South Beer Garden, the National Aids Council (NAC), Ingwebu Breweries and Delta Force Academy had assisted them financially to stage the tournament. — @khumzallen
