Maphosa suspended

over allegations of stabbing a man in Bulawayo on Sunday.
The former Monomotapa skipper is alleged to have stabbed Isaac Mazambane in the stomach in an ugly incident in Mpopoma near a beerhall.

Yesterday, FC Platinum chairman Tadson Zhou revealed that the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League pacesetters have suspended the former Warriors midfielder who also fetured for Congolese giants TP Mazembe.

Maphosa’s suspension is indefinite.
Zhou said the Premiership moneybags did not condone any behaviour that put the name of the club into disrepute.
“We do not condone such behaviour from a player of Maphosa’s stature who at one stage donned the national team colours.

“The named player has since been indefinitely suspended from all FC Platinum activities pending further investigations.
“Disciplinary action will then be subsequently taken by the club and appropriate action will also be taken,” said Zhou in a statement.
Zhou said the club does not encourage untoward behaviour from any of their members.

“FC Platinum is a registered PSL football club that is governed by a code of conduct.
“We abide to our ethics that strive to uphold discipline as one of our core objectives,” said Zhou.
The suspension means Maphosa will miss his club’s trip to Harare where they face Gunners at Lafarge.

Meanwhile Bulawayo giants Highlanders are in the eye of a storm after a section of their fans are alleged to have thrown some missiles towards the end of their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match against Shooting Stars at Barbourfields on Sunday.
Highlanders had taken a lead in the first half when Rahman Kutsanzira sent them ahead but the Wild Boys equalised in the 88th minute through veteran Elliot Matsika.

The club’s team manager Jerry Sibanda is also alleged to have slapped a fan for throwing missiles and the supporters retaliated by shattering a window on his car.
It appeared Bosso fans were pained at dropping points in a match they had led for the greater part and showed their frustration by throwing missiles.
PSL chief executive Kenny Ndebele yesterday said they were still waiting for a report from the police before any further action can be taken.

“At the moment we are waiting for a report from the police because the referee has indicated that he did not see anything since it was at the end of the game. We have also requested Highlanders to give their own report,” said Ndebele.

If indeed the police confirm that they were running skirmishes with fans, Bosso could be summoned to appear before a disciplinary committee. Last week, a PSL disciplinary committee found Highlanders guilty for failing to rein in on their fans during the BancABC Sup8r final against Motor Action at Barbourfields on September 10. The fans threw missiles twice during the game and Bosso were fined US$2 500 of which US$1 500 was suspended for the rest of the season. But now Bosso are likely to be slapped with another fine while the suspended fine could be invoked.
