Mapping a career true to your own potential

Gillian Murerekwa

DREAMS are kept alive not by hope

alone,

But by the steady steps we choose as

our own.

Yet here we stand, at the edge of the

line,

drowning in the question: “What is your

design?”

Parents ask, friends press and the noise

gets loud,

Trying to shape us to fit in a crowd.

But what is a career, if not a clear trail,

carved out to ensure that our purpose

will not fail?

It is not a race for a title or name,

nor living a script in somebody else’s

game.

It is the vehicle built for the goals that

we hold, turning the stories we cherish

into gold.

The crossroad arrives when the class

rooms divide, when stream, field and

focus require us to decide.

Do not let market trends or a friend’s

chosen route sow seeds of uncertainty,

pressure or doubt.

If numbers reveal how the markets will

move, step into economics and find

your own groove.

If the healing arts pull you, then wear

the white coat.

Build on your strengths, not on what

others wrote.

Align with your calibre, knowledge and

drive, for passion alone keeps ambition

alive.

Growth is not luck; it is a deliberate

design, a mixture of learning, adapting

and time.

Every degree and credential we earn

is fuel for the fire as we continue to

learn.

Whether technology, business or

creative arts, real mastery grows where

authentic skill starts.

So pause and assess before taking the

stride:

Know your direction: Let clear goals

be your base.

Assess your own spirit: Find what fits

your own pace.

Filter the options: Choose what is

viable

and true.

Map out the journey: Let strategic

planning guide you.

And remember, my friends, as we strive

to succeed, books and degrees are not

the only thing we need.

Engage in the world, let your interests

expand.

Extracurricular life shapes the strength

of your hand.
