Police in Marondera have arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly raping his mother (58) after a beer drinking binge.

Reports are that the two went out together to drink beer at a nearby shebeen.

It is alleged that they drank beer up to 11 pm when the mother decided to retire to bed, leaving his son drinking.

Allegations are that around 2 am the next day, the mother woke up to find someone raping her.

Mashonaland East acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Naume Gondo, confirmed the incident.

“It is reported that on November 2, around 7 pm at March Farm in Marondera, the 58-year-old mother and her son proceeded to a nearby shebeen to drink beer. The mother returned home drunk around 11 pm, leaving her son behind,” she said.

“She then retired to bed, leaving the main door unlocked, expecting her son to come later and have his supper, which was in the dining room.

“On November 3, 2025, around 2 am, the mother was awakened by someone raping her and she asked the person to identify himself. That is when he mentioned his name and realised she was being raped by her biological son.

“She then dressed up, went out and alerted her neighbours, who rushed to the scene and apprehended the son and a report was made to the police.”

She said investigations are in progress.
