Marondera-Musami road rehab resumes

The rehabilitation of the Marondera-Musami road in Mashonaland East has resumed after Government allocated $270 million towards its upgrade.

The Marondera-Musami road is the shortest link between the Mashonaland East Provincial capital, Marondera and Murehwa and other centres like Mutoko, Mudzi and Nyamapanda and its completion will enhance economic development.

Currently, the road is a cause for concern after it was damaged by incessant heavy rains, forcing motorists from Marondera to drive to Harare.

In an interview on the state of this important road, provincial road engineer for Mashonaland East, Engineer Martha Ndoro, said while the tendering process is being done, her ministry has already started grading the road from Marondera.

“The Marondera-Musami road has received an allocation for upgrading in the 2022 budget. The upgrading will result in the surfacing of 5km of the road. Scoping is being done, followed by tender documentation after which bids will be invited,” Eng Ndoro said.

Recently, speaking on the sidelines of the Harare-Mutare highway rehabilitation monitoring and evaluation process at Melfort in Mashonaland East Province, Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona said road works were continuing across the province.
