Marondera residents to get more boreholes

Marondera residents can expect more boreholes as part of interim measures a local company is taking to ease water challenges of more than two decades.

This comes after residents have expressed concern over poor service delivery by their council, which has seen some suburbs going for years without running water and sewer pipes.

Itmosci (Pvt) Ltd company managing director Dr Ignatious Maveke said they were going to drill five boreholes around Marondera to ease water woes faced by residents.

“The situation is very dire considering what we have observed in suburbs like Garikai where there has been no running water for many years,” he said.

“Water is pertinent commodity to have, especially in this time of Covid-19. We have already made consultations with the drilling company.”

Marondera Residents Open Forum director Mr Tapiwa Chengeta said the move will go a long way to ease water challenges.

“We welcome and appreciate this noble idea,” he said. “Council is taking long to provide water to Garikai suburb and in other suburbs there is inconsistent supply of water.”

Mr Chengeta said they had handed over a list of concerns to the local authority, but no response had been forthcoming.
