Marondera West starts receiving food aid

PEOPLE in Marondera West have started receiving food aid, in line with President Mnangagwa’s call that no one will go hungry this year, the National Assembly representative for the constituency has said.

Addressing multitudes of ZANU PF supporters at a ‘Thank You’ rally at Madzimurema Business Centre in Chihota — Marondera West Legislator Cde Godwin Tavaziva said Government has solid plans to cushion people during this year trying times caused by drought.

He said some families from his constituency had already received food assistance from Government as part of the national drought mitigation programme.

“I would like to thank you for voting President Mnangagwa into office and also trusting me with your votes, as your Member of Parliament. We are now looking forward to working together towards developing our constituency. Everyone is aware that the President gave us inputs under the Pfumvudza programme. We were all happy to receive seeds and fertilisers, but unfortunately, we did not receive as much rain as expected.

“Our President is much alive to the situation we are all facing. I am also alive to what we are all experiencing. As we speak, I heard that some families have already received mealie meal as part of Government measures to make sure that no one dies of hunger,” he said.

Cde Tavaziva said plans were already in place, through the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, to resuscitate roads around the constituency.

He said a road construction company has since been identified to work on the roads.

“As part of the development agenda towards Vision 2030, we are going to work on roads around the constituency. Through the Ministry of Transport (and Infrastructural Development), we have since identified a construction company which is going to work on the roads.

“President Mnangagwa promised to work on the Landas Road which is about 67km long and needs US$44 000 to be completed,” he said.

Cde Tavaziva told the ruling party supporters that part of the devolution funds will be channelled towards construction of a science laboratory at one of the schools in Chihota.

He said solar-powered boreholes will soon be drilled under the Presidential Borehole Scheme, with three wards expected to benefit under the first phase.

“We know there are water challenges and people here are yet to benefit from the borehole drilling scheme. Three boreholes are set to be drilled in three wards. The rigs will come into the area soon,” he said.

The legislator also pledged to roll out various empowerment projects around the constituency.

The rally was attended by senior ZANU PF officials from the province, councillors from the constituency, traditional leaders and party members.
