Herentals College and Chicken Inn shared spoils in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League outing at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.

The Bulawayo-based side took an early lead with a 28th minute George Majika strike.  The veteran forward buried a classy Xolani Ndlovu cross which came from the left side.

However, the Prince Matore led side seemed content with the solitary goal, playing a lukewarm game that did not show any hunger for bragging rights and they dearly paid for their casual approach late on.

Herentals saved themselves embarrassment in front of their supporters when Davison Marowa delivered an equaliser through a Phiri assist.

The Students maintained seventh place on the log standings with the point they got yesterday while the Gamecocks remained sixth. But the share of the spoils impacted more on Chicken Inn, who have lost considerable ground in the championship race as they are now 12 points behind log leaders Ngezi Platinum Stars.

“It was a difficult game, but winnable,” said the Gamecocks’ coach Matore.

“We tried but one point is okay. We knew we were going to have a tough match against Herentals. They play well, they are a good side,” said Matore.
