Marula Secondary School in Mangwe District, Matabeleland South, on Thursday received a donation of 500 bags of cement from the Presidential Science Laboratories Scheme.

Mangwe District Ward 11 councillor Ngonidzashe Chemuru, alongside the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA) and Mangwe Rural District Council (RDC), came to witness the donation.

The school has so far received 4,000 bricks and 600 bags of cement since the Government began rolling out the science laboratories to boost Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

“We have so far received 600 bags of cement and 4,000 bricks from the Presidential Scheme. We have pledged to assist with locally available resources, which include pit sand, river sand, and water. Bitumen World also provides us with these items for free. We are very thankful to our President, as this helps in growing the school and empowering our community,” said Cllr Chemhuru .

Mangwe Schools District Inspector Mr Danisa Nkomo said the initiative will help in teaching sciences in a more conducive environment.

“Five secondary schools in Mangwe District have been selected to benefit from the Presidential Science Laboratories Scheme. This will help us teach natural science in a more suitable environment, as we have been facing a shortage of well-equipped science laboratories,” said Mr Nkomo.

The laboratory is being constructed by Mangwe Rural District Council in partnership with the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA) under the Presidential Science Laboratories Scheme.
Marula Secondary was established in 2019 and has become one of the fastest-growing rural secondary schools in the district.
