DYNAMOS coach Herbert “Jompano” Maruwa feels more energised, despite sitting on an ultimatum, after he bagged the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Coach of the Month for March.
Maruwa’s charges were the best performers during the first month of the 2023 campaign with a 100 percent record, following their 1-0 away win over Hwange at Barbourfields and the 4-0 drubbing of new boys Sheasham at the National Sports Stadium.
But they have struggled to maintain the form, which has led to the club’s management giving the coach a two-match ultimatum before the league was abruptly halted last week to allow the uninterrupted maintenance works at the National Sports Stadium.
Maruwa said yesterday he was delighted with the PSL recognition.
“I am happy that at least the work that the team has put in has not gone unrecognised. It’s definitely not about me but the whole team. It shows we are doing a good job and that we have the potential to do even better than what we have done so far.
“Personally it gives me more energy to continue working hard. We started off wel,l but our rhythm was disturbed a bit. There was a time when goals eluded us but the last two matches before the break we managed to score goals, although we lost one of the matches in Ngezi.
“It was a good sign though and we scored even more against ZPC Kariba. We just need to pick it up from there when the games resume on July 1. The good thing is that we have a very solid defence, we have got 10 clean sheets from 12 games. So we have to maintain that and probably try to score more,” said Maruwa.
DeMbare are currently sitting sixth in the log standings with 18 points from 12 games. They are five points adrift of leaders Ngezi Platinum Stars. Dynamos lost considerable ground after going five games without winning recently. Their 3-0 thrashing of ZPC Kariba was the confidence booster they needed. But the Harare giants’ momentum could be held back again by the three-week break. “We have given our players some time off and they have individual programmes that they are following,” said Maruwa.
“The team will regroup some time towards the end of this week and we will continue working on the areas that we have identified need more attention.”
