DYNAMOS coach Herbert Maruwa yesterday described teenage sensation Elton Chikona’s impending move to Finland as an inspiration to Zimbabwe’s talented young footballers.
Just like Bill Antonio before him (last year), Chikona is set for Europe after spending just half of a season with DeMbare.
Chikona will leave for Finland in the next month to a yet-unnamed club on the back of encouraging statistics. He has made six appearances in which he has managed three goals and two assists.
“He is a good youngster and a very good player. He is one for the future and he is set for Finland,” said Maruwa.
“It’s good for our country to have youngsters breaking into Europe, after playing six games only it’s very encouraging and gives us hope in playing youngsters in our team.”
Maruwa was speaking ahead of their date with Hwange at Barbourfields on Sunday.
Dynamos won the reverse fixture against Hwange 1-0 in the first leg encounter and are looking forward to collecting maximum points in a bid to reduce the nine-point gap between them and log leaders Highlanders.
“It’s a new game altogether, a lot has happened and now we have to quickly get prepared and focus on our new game and forget about the game about Yadah.
“I am happy there is a lot of progress in the team especially in the scoring department, goals are coming. We have managed to score more than three goals against ZPC, Sheasham, and Yadah. So on a good day, we can score goals.
“Our support base in Bulawayo is very encouraging, the supporters there have passion and it’s helping us as the team for the youngsters to express themselves and we are getting results,” said Maruwa.
Meanwhile, Dynamos yesterday made an official announcement of their partnership with IATA registered travel agent, Rouxgold Travel. The partnership started last month and the company has facilitated the giants air travel to Bulawayo where they are playing their home games at Barbourfields.
“Dynamos is pleased to officially announce its exciting partnership with tourism giant Rouxgold Travel,” the Glamour Boys said in a statement yesterday.
“Rouxgold is an IATA registered travel agent with presence in Harare, Bulawayo and Johannesburg, specialising in business and leisure tourism.
“Thus far, the Glamour Boys have enjoyed the privilege of flying to Bulawayo for the three most recent matches against FC Platinum, Yadah FC and Chicken Inn. Rouxgold has further facilitated with airport transfers through their shuttle service.
“In the pipeline are exciting packages for our fans and matchday experiences which will be announced in due course so look out on Dynamos FC and Rouxgold Travel official pages.”
