SPENCER MASANGO leads the Minerva Zimbabwe International Chess Open on four points, half a point clear of Shepherd Kukudzarema ahead of Sunday’s final round at Tynwald Primary School in Harare.

Gillan Bwalya and Kaulule Siame Kela of Zambia, Augustine Mtonga and Timothy Kabwe are a further half-point back on three points and remain in contention.

The five-day tournament has attracted 400 participants from Zimbabwe’s 10 provinces, along with players from Zambia, Mozambique and South Africa. Walter Chipamba leads Open B on four points after ending Archford Matiringe’s unbeaten run. A six-player group is half a point behind Chipamba.

There is no outright leader in the Ladies section, where Constance Mbatha and reigning JR Mawere Ladies champion Christine Makwena are tied on 3½ points.

Colletta Wakuruwarewa and Tatenda Melisa Zengeni are half a point behind the joint leaders.
