FORMER Highlanders player Alexander Maseko has backed the appointment of former Warriors and Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari as Bosso new head coach.
Maseko believes the team will bounce back to their glory days after the appointment of Mwaruwaru.
His sentiments come at a time when opinion is divided on the issue given the u-turn made by the executive, dumping the South African coach earlier appointed and turning to Benjani.
“I think the appointment of Mwaruwari is a positive for the team as we look forward to finish in the top four this season and improve as we go,” he said.
“Focus should be ending on the top four and at least getting silverware. There is also focus on rebuilding the pride of team as Highlanders are a big brand that cannot go for years without winning a trophy or silverware.”
The team should support our own and I feel happy that we are moving towards that as a team.
“I see no reason for not supporting our own. We had foreign coaches coming in, not improving anyway. If given the support from all departments, I think all will fall into place gradually.
“What needs to be done is to support him as football has evolved and it’s now a business. The club has to focus on revenue generating programs. Highlanders are a brand, getting quality players who can compete should be a priority.
“They have a willing sponsor and they must utilise on that by putting structures into place, have a department of scouts than having people bringing player’s willy-nilly. We need to look at the failures of previous years and work towards that.”
