Mash Central cry foul

THE Mashonaland Central Athletics Board are challenging the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe elections held recently which saw Tendai Tagara being re-elected for another term.

Tagara and his executive, which has Enias Nhoro as the vice president, are being accused of side-lining the province.

A Mashonaland Central Athletics Clubs representative, who is also CHABS Athletics Club director, Mirirai Chabenga, said the national association was side-lining the province.

“NAAZ has been letting us down for years and the SRC (Sport and Recreation Commission) are aware of our grievances,” Chabhenga said.

“They are using an old constitution which was not adopted by the provinces.

“We only get briefings from the secretary about meetings which I don’t believe are conducted. To make matters worse, the secretary is not based in Mashonaland Central, but rather at Belvedere Teachers College yet is representing our province.

“We are a province that is rich in talent and the people love the sport, but we are being let down.

“The only time the guys come to us is when they need affiliation fees and after that we will no longer be part of them.

“We pay $100 for courses and they are not receipted; we only got the breakdown after we raise the issue and we are not happy at all.”
