Mash Central urged to prepare for polls

Speaking at an induction workshop for the newly elected DCC members at Border Gezi National Youth Train­ing Service camp over the weekend, Zanu-PF Secretary for Transport and Welfare Cde Nicholas Goche urged the revolutionary party’s members to be united.
“We conducted our DCC elections in a peaceful manner and what is left now is to begin preparations for the general elections that will be held this year.
“These are make or break elections for our party and require that we be united as a party.
“What happened in 2008 should not be repeated because the imperial­ists are still around and will want to reverse the land reform programme at the first opportunity,” he said.

Cde Goche said their candidate remained President Mugabe and scoffed at those calling for his retire­ment.
“Those are misguided elements calling for his retirement. President Mugabe was appointed by God and all that talk about his age is rubbish.
“Age is just a number and some of those people calling on him to step down are not even as fit as he is,” he said.
Cde Goche urged Zanu PF support­ers including those who won or lost in the elections to work together and respect the party’s protocol and lead­ership.
Speaking at the same event, Zanu-PF Mashonaland Central province chairman Cde Dickson Mafios spoke against factionalism and the use of money to subvert the will of the peo­ple.

“We conducted our elections in a dignified manner and what is left is for us to work together — winners or losers.
“We are a revolutionary party and everything we do should be done in the open, we should not promote fac­tionalism but work with one goal in mind and that is to win the elections that will be held later this year,” he said.
Cde Mafios urged the leadership in the province not to interfere with the work of the grassroots structures to prevent divisions.

He also took a swipe at Copac for subverting the views of the people in the writing of the draft constitution.
“The people spoke during the out­reach but what we are seeing is not what we said.
“If they do not change then we will vote against that draft. Copac should respect what people said,” he said.

Cde Mafios castigated Finance Minister Tendai Biti for not funding agriculture saying it was one of rea­sons they wanted the inclusive Gov­ernment to end. Mashonaland Central consists of eight DCCs.
