Zanu-PF Mashonaland East Province has received with joy, news that it will host the party’s 18th National People’s Conference in December and preparations are expected to start in earnest soon. The conference in Mashonaland East will be the second under the new dispensation after Matabeleland South hosted the indaba in December last year.
Zanu-PF Mashonaland East provincial chairman Cde Joel Biggie Matiza said they would meet soon after the Easter holidays to start preparations of the annual indaba.
“We feel very honoured as a province to be hosting our party’s National People’s Conference in December,” he said.
“We have just received the news and we are going to meet as the Provincial Executive Council soon after the Easter holidays to start working on the logistics of the conference. We are ready to start the preparations now and by the time we reach December, we will be more than ready.
“To us it’s a national event but as the local leadership we want to take a leading role to ensure that the conference lives up to its billing.” Cde Kelvin Mutsvairo, who is the Mashonaland East provincial youth chairman, said: “We are happy that the announcement comes early. This is going to give us enough time to prepare for our conference.
“This is an important event on our party’s national calendar and as a province we are going to treat it with all the seriousness it deserves. We are happy that this opportunity will also allow us scale up the popularity of the party in our province.”
He said the provincial leadership was going to meet soon to map the way forward following the announcement by the party leadership.
Zanu-PF Secretary for Information and Publicity Cde Simon Khaya Moyo made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday.
