MASHONALAND West Province is 80 percent ready to host the 23rd Zanu-PF Annual People’s Conference, with preparations gathering momentum ahead of the major party indaba scheduled for October at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT).
Provincial chairman Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka said the province was working closely with Zanu-PF National Chairman Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri to ensure that all outstanding work at the conference venue was completed on time.
Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri has visited Chinhoyi several times to assess progress, working closely with the provincial leadership to ensure the province delivers a successful conference.
Speaking to Zimpapers on the sidelines of the Zanu-PF Women’s League provincial inter-district meeting held at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) on Saturday, Cde Mliswa-Chikoka said most of the key infrastructure was already in place.
“In terms of the preparations that we do at the conference, we are very happy. We are at about 80 per cent of the preparations because we are left with the perimeter fence, ramming the ground where food will be served and the beautification of the area,” she said.
“We also want electricity and water to be connected, as piping and wiring have been completed.”
Cde Mliswa-Chikoka said the province was also confident that pledges made during the Mashonaland West Conference dinner would be honoured.
“As for dinner pledges, people are owning up to their promises, and we are confident that the US$500 000 raised in cash and pledges during the Mashonaland West Conference dinner will be delivered,” she said.
Infrastructure work is now at an advanced stage, with the provincial leader saying attention was increasingly turning to final touches, logistics and mobilisation as the province prepares to welcome over 7 000 delegates to the conference.
The preparations come as the province continues to mobilise its structures ahead of the conference, with party members demonstrating growing support for President Mnangagwa’s continued leadership.
At the Women’s League inter-district meeting attended by hundreds of women from the province’s six districts, 29 resolutions were adopted for presentation at the conference.
Among the resolutions, the women endorsed President Mnangagwa’s continued leadership as Zanu-PF First Secretary and President until 2029.
They also backed the alignment of the national Constitution with the party’s Constitution, particularly on the issue of the electoral congress, supporting the proposed shift of the congress from 2027 to 2029.
The meeting was attended by Zanu-PF Secretary for Women’s Affairs and Senate President Cde Mable Chinomona and the party’s National Secretary for Administration Cde Monica Mutsvangwa.
The resolutions demonstrate the position of Mashonaland West’s grassroots structures on key party and national issues.
