Provincial Governor and Resident Minister Faber Chidarikire handed over the motorbikes to the department of irrigation, mechanisation and Agritex on Friday of last week.
Agritex provincial extension officer Mrs Edna Shambare said the bikes would go a long in motivating field staff while increasing their area of operation.
“The allocation has been a big motivation to our field staff who were being forced to walk long distances in their bid to reach out to more farmers. The motorbikes will address issues of mobility and puts the burden on them to deliver,” she said.
She said the bikes would also help in the supervision of staff so that they provide efficient service to their clients who are the farmers.
Mr Chidarikire urged farmers to form synergies with the extension workers so that issues of fuel and other needs could be addressed.
Agritex received 69 bikes while the department of Mechanisation got 32 and the Department of Veterinary Services received 18.
The Department of Irrigation got 20 bikes.
Extension workers have been struggling to reach out to farmers following the increase of farmers needing the service after Government embarked on the land redistribution programme, which saw more people being allocated land and venturing into agriculture with little knowledge.
