Zimbabwe’s Mashonaland West Province and Namibia’s Kavango East Region have renewed their longstanding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The signing ceremony for the renewal of the MOU was held this morning at Chinhoyi Technical High School.

Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Marian Chombo and Kavango East Region chairman, Mr Damian Maghambayi signed the MOU.

Minister Chombo said the occasion was not just a formal renewal but symbolised a shared commitment to fostering cooperation, development, and mutual growth for the two nations.

Zimbabwe and Namibia have a long-standing relationship that goes beyond independence.

Namibia offered land to Zimbabwe to set up a port.

“This partnership, rooted in friendship and strategic collaboration, underscores our belief that regional cooperation is vital in unlocking the potential of our respective communities,” she said.

“It recognises that in unity and partnership, we can overcome challenges, exchange knowledge, and harness opportunities for sustainable development.”

The renewal of the MOU also signifies unwavering dedication to strengthening the bonds between the two provinces.

It fosters greater cultural understanding, economic cooperation, and social exchange. Mr Maghambayi said the agreement opens new avenues for collaboration in agriculture, education, health, infrastructure, and other key sectors that are critical for our prosperity.

“We will learn from Mashonaland West province agricultural models while our sister province will learn from our innovative approaches to rural development, community engagement, and natural resource management,” he said.

Kavango East Region also sees the MOU renewal as an opportunity to explore new markets, attract investments, and benefit from Mashonaland West agricultural expertise, human capital, and experience in managing diverse challenges.

Ultimately, the partnership will also foster regional integration, which is essential for peace, stability, and prosperity in the Southern African Region.
