ZIMBABWEAN martial artist Wilfred Mashaya completed a clean sweep at the ICO Scottish Open in Glasgow, winning gold in all four categories he entered.
Mashaya, popularly known as “Zim Ninja”, won Traditional Weapons, Freestyle Weapons, Creative Weapons and Musical Weapons at Easterhouse Sports Centre during the two-day tournament, which ended on Sunday.
“It shows that the hard work, discipline and preparation are paying off. Every competition comes with its own challenges, so I had to remain focused and make sure that I represented Zimbabwe to the best of my ability,” said Mashaya.
The Scottish Open attracted competitors from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and other countries. The four-gold haul follows his two gold and two silver medals at the 2025 ICO Martial Arts World Championships in Wales.
At those championships, Mashaya also coached eight Zimbabwean children who collected 43 medals. He later became the first martial artist and the first member of the uniformed forces to win the People’s Choice Award at the Annual National Sports Awards, where he also received the Coach of the Year Silver Award.
