EIGHTY six golfers took part in the inaugural Mashwede Charity Cup golf tournament at Falcon Golf Club on Saturday.
The charity event was organised by Mashwede Holdings to raise funds to support some vulnerable members of society.
“We are very grateful for the support we got from the corporate world who came in their numbers to support us,’’ said Tendai Mashamhanda, one of the event organisers.
“The idea is to give back to the community and, in celebrating Tapiwa’s (Mashamhanda) birthday, we saw it right to raise funds, which we will give to some vulnerable children who stay in homes, by paying some school fees for them.
“We are very pleased to have managed to hold the event, which comes a few months after we successfully hosted the Mashwede Open, at the same venue.
‘‘The event was an open tournament and saw professional like Anywhere Watchi taking part.’’
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe’s professional golfer, Scott Vincent, finished tied 25th place, at the Dunlop Phoenix, on the Japanese Tour.
Vincent, who had missed the cut in last week’s tournament, managed rounds of 68, 70, 70 and 69, for a total 277.
The event was won by Cham Kim, his third victory of the season, and he became the number one, on the money rankings.
Kim, started out tied on position nine, three shots behind the leader, but with five birdies on his front nine, he was in contention very early.
By the time he reached final 560 yards Par five 18th, it was down to Chan and Naoyuki Kataoka in the same groupings.
Chan made a great tee shot with power and stability to manage to take the lead.
