Bikita Minerals 1–0 Kwekwe United
INNOCENT Masiwa, the man of the moment and rumoured to be on the verge of rejoining title chasing MWOS, showed once again why he’s in high demand, netting a late winner as Bikita Minerals edged Kwekwe United 1-0 at Gibbo Stadium yesterday.
The forward took his season tally to seven goals, calmly slotting home in the 81st minute to break the resistance of a spirited but struggling Kwekwe United side.
The win keeps Bikita unbeaten at Gibbo, a venue quickly turning into a fortress, and crucially boosts their push for a top half finish in their debut Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.
Assistant coach Arnold Jani, who stood in for head coach Wilson Mutekede (currently on COSAFA duty), was satisfied with the result but rued missed chances.
“It was important to collect maximum points and build our tally. We played a team at the bottom, but Kwekwe came here and really competed.
We created a number of chances and could’ve won by a bigger margin, but we just weren’t clinical in front of goal,” Jani said.
Despite the narrow loss, Kwekwe United head coach Masimba Dinyero remained upbeat. He felt his side deserved at least a point based on their performance and is confident they can still fight their way out of the relegation zone.
“A draw would’ve been fair, but we conceded a soft goal. Still, my boys gave it their all. We’re going back to the drawing board to fix our weaknesses.
We’re not just fulfilling fixtures, we believe we can survive. We have the capacity to bring in quality players this transfer window and turn our season around. The league is a marathon. Yes, we lost today, but there’s still a lot to play for.”
