TWO ARMED balaclava-clad robbers allegedly attacked and robbed a taxi driver of his car, US$20 and R5 near Mzilikazi High School in Bulawayo.
The robbery occurred this week on Tuesday at around 1130pm.
A source told B-Metro that a dark cloud befell the taxi driver Donald Mafudzire (50) near North End shops after dropping off a client who had hired him.
The source said when the taxi driver was driving back to the city centre he saw large stones blocking the road.
“He stopped his car and left the keys in the ignition and alighted from the car. While he was removing the stones from the road two men who had covered their faces with balaclavas approached him and pointed a gun to his head threatening to gun him down if he screamed. The taxi driver never screamed,” said the source.

The source further said the robbers pushed the terrified taxi driver into the taxi and drove towards Mzilikazi suburb and stopped at a bushy area near Mzilikazi High School.
“One of the robbers pointed a gun to his face and threatened to shoot him as they demanded money. The taxi driver gave them US$20 and R5. They bashed him and demanded more money. After that, they ordered him to disembark from the car and they got into his car before they drove off,” the source said.
Mafudzire reported the incident at Khumalo Police Station.
Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident.
“We are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of a man who robbed a taxi driver of his car and cash. Anyone with information may contact any nearest police station,” she said.
