DSTV RANGERS coach Ikabort Masocha believes Wednesday’s win against Black Mambas is a boost for his side as they continue to seek points to finish in the top half of the World Navi Northern Region Division One soccer league.
The seasoned campaigners had a bad start in their campaign this season and Masocha, together with his technical team, have been working on trying to steer the team away from the relegation zone.
They are now occupying ninth position on the log.
Masocha said they have so far managed to get out of the relegation zone and were optimistic they will be in the top half by the end of the season.
“We won but it wasn’t easy. The performance wasn’t great, but the result was good for us. We hope to continue picking points so that we survive relegation.
“Finishing in the top half of the league was the aim. When we came in, the team was lying third or fourth place from the bottom and slowly we are getting there. The objective is still the same, it hasn’t changed,” said Masocha.
The DStv Rangers coach said there won’t be any changes to the team for their next games as he feels Wednesday’s shaky performance was due to the pressure of dropping points in the previous three games.
“There is not much work that needs to be done regarding our next assignment. We are not going to change the way we have been preparing.
“The only challenge we had was pressure of not getting points. We started against DC Academy when we were away from home, we lost then we played against Ngezi at home and drew 0-0.
“From there we went to Bindura and lost 1-0, so those three games we managed to get just one point out of a possible nine.
“So those three matches brought pressure on us.”
Masocha and his troops will be hoping to maintain their recently found winning form if they are entertaining any hopes of making it into the top half of the table.
The competition is getting stiffer every week with the top teams gunning for the title and they won’t be any cheap points on offer.
The bottom half has also become unpredictable and it seems no team is safe and anything can happen in the remaining 10 matches.
