LUKE “Vahombe” Masomere has resurfaced at ambitious Central Region Soccer League Division One side Hardrock as technical director, just days after parting ways with Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Triangle United.
Masomere’s appointment comes after a dismal first six games in the PSL with Triangle, where he managed only one point out of a possible 18, leaving the club rooted at the bottom of the PSL table.
His abrupt departure marked another turbulent chapter in his coaching career, which has seen mixed success across Zimbabwean football.
Hardrock, newly promoted from Division Two, has turned to Masomere’s experience to stabilise their technical department.
Club chairman Jonathan Chahwanda confirmed the move, citing the need for leadership and crisis management in their debut Division One campaign.
“We are a new team from Division Two, and we felt we needed experience and seniority in controlling our technical team,” Chahwanda said.
“When things get difficult, the whole contest is to have results. We are trying by all means to get positive results wherever we go, but our shortfall is crisis management. That’s why we’ve brought in Masomere.”
Masomere, a seasoned coach with previous stints at Manica Diamonds and FC Platinum, has faced criticism for his recent struggles.
His failure to turn around Triangle’s fortunes raised questions about his adaptability in high-pressure situations.
However, Hardrock’s leadership believes his extensive knowledge of Zimbabwean football will be crucial as they seek to avoid relegation and build a competitive squad.
For Hardrock, based in the mining town of Kwekwe, they seek to make an impact as they shove off competition from their rivals.
This weekend they are set to lock horns with Tongogara at home.
