ON FIRE Highlanders midfielder Mason Mushore, says he’s far from satisfied with his current form, insisting he’s only just getting started.
The hardworking linkman has been a dominant force in the Bosso engine room, breathing life into midfield since cementing a starting berth late last season. A box-to-box dynamo, Mushore has impressed with his ability to break up opposition attacks and drive forward, adding both steel and spark to the side.
Mushore attributes his standout performances to divine timing and sheer dedication.
“I can just say it’s God’s time. I’m also pushing very hard at training, even doing my own sessions and I think that’s showing now,” said Mushore. “It’s because I want to achieve more. I won’t stop now.”
With two goals already in 11 appearances this season, the Budiriro-born midfielder believes he could finish with as many as eight, while also chasing collective success with Bosso.
“I want to win the championship and lift more cups with the team,” he said. “That’s my target. This has to be my year, but only if I keep working hard.”
Despite being a frontrunner for the Business Friends of Bosso Player of the Month Award (sponsored by Mgcini Nkolomi, Phathisani Nkomo and Titus Mbongendlu), Mushore remains laser-focused on doing more for the club.
He also heaped praise on the technical team, teammates and fans.
“The support is amazing. Everyone’s encouraging me to keep pushing and that helps. It’s no surprise I’m playing like this. I’m even training harder, and I’ll keep trying to score more goals,” he said.
Mushore was on the scoresheet in Bosso’s 1-1 draw against FC Platinum last Sunday, having earlier netted in the draw with Triangle. His Highlanders tally now stands at four goals, including earlier strikes against CAPS United and Hwange in previous seasons.
His presence will be crucial this Saturday away to ZPC Kariba, in a Castle Lager Premiership clash, as Highlanders aim to tighten their grip in the chasing pack.
With no big-name signings in the last transfer window, Bosso have exceeded expectations sitting fourth with 18 points, five behind surprise leaders MWOS.
Mushore, his elder brother McKinnon, and captain Melikhaya Ncube will again form the spine of the team, offering cover in midfield and supplying the strike pair of Brighton Ncube and Reason Sibanda.
Last season, Highlanders drew 1-1 in Kariba before turning the tables with a 2-0 win over the same opponents at Barbourfields Stadium.
This weekend’s spotlight fixture is the Harare Derby between Dynamos and CAPS United at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.
Champions, Simba Bhora, must tread carefully against a resurgent Triangle, who stunned Dynamos 2-0 last weekend and now look to prove that wasn’t a one-off.
Meanwhile, table-topping MWOS host struggling Kwekwe United at Ngoni Stadium.
