MASOWE for Economic Development (Masowe4ED), in partnership with the Forestry Commission of Zimbabwe and the Ministry of Environment, Wildlife and Climate, launched a tree-planting initiative in Glen Norah B last Friday.
The initiative aims to dispel long-held views linking apostolic worship sites to deforestation.
By transforming worship spaces into hubs of reforestation, Masowe4ED aligns its efforts with the National Development Strategy 2 and Vision 2030 under President Mnangagwa, reinforcing Government priorities on climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods and inclusive innovation.
Leaders from Masowe4ED across all10 provinces participated in the tree planting, with plans already underway to expand the initiative to four more prayer sites in Harare.
Speaking on behalf of Environment, Climate and Wildlife Deputy Minister John Paradza, the Ministry’s chief accountant Ms Tarupuwa Moyo, said environmental stewardship is not the sole responsibility of the Government.
Masowe4ED chairperson Cde Onwell Vengesa said they plan to plant 1 million trees on 246 prayer sites across all provinces.
