THE High Schools Rugby Festival, sponsored by Unforgettable, begins today at Hartsfield Rugby Grounds in Bulawayo.

The two-day festival features a number of school rugby teams from across the country and beyond, and includes a women’s competition.

Gilbert “Gidza” Nyamutsamba, one of the festival organisers and former Zimbabwe Sevens head coach, said that everything is in place for “two good days of fun and sport”.

“The teams are ready, the fields are ready, and the venue is ready. All the teams have confirmed their participation and what is left is just two good days of rugby so all is ready, and I’m sure we are going to have two good days of fun and sport,” said Nyamutsamba.

Milton High School director of sports, Lovemore Mangwiro, promised fireworks, and encouraged all rugby enthusiasts to come and support the game and the festival.

Milton is among the organisers of the festival.

“All the schools confirmed and the travelling ones are already on their way. This time around we will have girls’ teams from Goromonzi, Plumtree, Montrose and Northlea.

“It is always a good thing to include the girl child so that they also showcase their talent. From day one, it’s going to be fireworks, and everyone must come and support rugby,” said Mangwiro.

Entry into the stadium is US$3 for adults, US$1 for children and free for children in school uniform. Matches begin at 8am, with a highlight being the rivalry between Milton and Churchill.
