TALENTED Bantu Rovers midfielder Nqobizitha Masuku will be hoping to finally clinch a deal in South Africa following revelations that the player might be leaving soon for trials with SuperSport United.
The former national Under-20 captain has in the past year been globetrotting having tried his luck in Germany and Belgium where he trained with Bundesliga club Borrusia VFL Monchengladbach and Cercle Brugge of Belgium.
According to a source, Bantu Rovers seem to have established good relations with SuperSport United who at one time invited Chicken Inn’s Kudakwashe Mahachi during the midseason transfer window.
Tshintsha Guluva last week managed to arrange a week-long trial for Mahachi at Mamelodi Sundowns and according to unconfirmed reports, the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Rookie of the Year will be joining the Brazilians in January.
“Nqo (Masuku) is going for trials at SuperSport United soon and it seems he is not the only one who will be attending trials during the off-season.
“As you are aware, our season is over but we are still training because we have been told that there are some players within the squad who will be attending trials outside the country so we have to stay active,” said a source.
The Zifa Southern Region Division One Soccer League season ended a fortnight ago and Bantu Rovers once again failed to win promotion and will be hoping to put a strong challenge next season.
Should Masuku who is comfortable in a number of positions make the grade at SuperSport United, he would be the second player after Marvellous Nakamba who is in France to make a breakthrough direct from Division One.
Contacted for comment, Bantu Rovers’ spokesman Wilbert Sibanda could neither confirm nor deny that Masuku would be attending trials at SuperSport.
“Ah, uzwe ngobani?,” he said sounding shocked. He later said: “As Bantu Rovers we believe that we have a responsibility to create opportunities for players and it is up to them (players) how they handle such chances.
“As for Masuku, it is not a secret that he has been doing well and there are many clubs that I cannot reveal that have been following him. There are a number of our young players that we are assisting to find off-season attachments outside the country so that they get exposure and experience. Once things materialise, you will be among the first to know,” said Sibanda.
