REHABILITATION works have commenced at Masvingo Airport as part of preparations to host the Sanganai/Hlanganani/Dzimbahwe World Tourism Expo 2026 in September.

The airport refurbishment is expected to enhance the province’s readiness to receive increased tourist traffic during the country’s flagship international tourism showcase, while improving aviation infrastructure and the passenger experience.

Airports Company of Zimbabwe (ACZ) said the works were part of broader efforts to strengthen Masvingo’s capacity to handle increased traffic associated with the tourism expo.
“Rehabilitation works have commenced at Masvingo Airport as Zimbabwe accelerates preparations to host the Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo 2026 in Masvingo.

“The airport upgrade is part of ongoing efforts to enhance aviation infrastructure, improve the passenger experience and strengthen Masvingo’s capacity to accommodate increased tourist traffic during this prestigious international tourism showcase,” ACZ said in an update.

The rehabilitation comes as Masvingo positions itself as an increasingly important tourism gateway, with the province boasting major attractions including the Great Zimbabwe Monument.

The airport improvements are also expected to support the broader economic benefits associated with hosting the expo, including increased visitor arrivals, business activity and investment opportunities.

“The ongoing works reaffirm Zimbabwe’s commitment to developing modern, safe and efficient airport infrastructure that supports the growth of the tourism industry and contributes to the national vision of positioning Zimbabwe as a premier tourism destination,” said ACZ.

The prestigious tourism expo will run from September 9 to 12 at the Gymkhana Events and Conference Centre in Masvingo.

Sanganai/Hlanganani/Dzimbahwe Tourism Expo is Zimbabwe’s flagship international tourism trade fair, organised annually by the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA).

The expo brings together tourism operators, international buyers and other industry stakeholders from across the globe, providing a platform for Zimbabwe to showcase its tourism products, attract visitors and investment, forge partnerships and open new markets.

The 2026 edition is expected to give Masvingo an opportunity to showcase its tourism potential while positioning the city as a destination capable of hosting major international events.

The airport upgrade adds another dimension to preparations for the expo, with improved air access expected to complement investments in accommodation, conferencing and other tourism-supporting infrastructure.
