Harare Bureau
PEOPLE in Masvingo have hailed President Mugabe for appointing eight Cabinet ministers and deputies from the province. Apart from Cde Walter Mzembi who was retained as the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Zanu-PF Politburo member Cde Dzikamai Mavhaire was appointed Minister of Energy and Power Developmen while fellow Politburo member Cde Josiah Hungwe is now Minister of State for Liaising on Psychomotor Activities in Education (Vocational Training).

Another Politburo member Cde Kudakwashe Bhasikiti was appointed Minister of State Responsible for Masvingo Province. President Mugabe also appointed four deputy ministers from the province — Dr Paul Chimedza (Health), Cde Davis Marapira (Agriculture), Cde Mathias Tongofa (Youth Development and Empowerment) and Cde Tongai Muzenda (Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare).

Zanu-PF Masvingo provincial chairperson Cde Lovemore Matuke said the move was a deserved reward for the party’s emphatic victory in the 31 July harmonised polls. “Of course we are very happy, more than happy, with the entire Cabinet appointed by President Mugabe and particularly the high number of ministers and deputy ministers from Masvingo province,” said Cde Matuke.

“To us it is a reward for the clean sweep that we delivered to the revolutionary party during the July 31 harmonised elections. President Mugabe asked us to return Masvingo to its former glorious past as a one party State where Zanu-PF ruled the roost and we delivered.”
Zimbabwe Liberation War Veterans Association Masvingo provincial chairperson Cde Namatirai Chivanga said the people of Masvingo were happy with the high number of Cabinet ministers from the province and called for the political leadership to consolidate that achievement.

“It is an honour from President Mugabe to have so many Cabinet ministers and deputy ministers from Masvingo. The President challenged us to jettison the MDC out of the province and we did that in style and we have been rewarded,” said Cde Chivanga.
Masvingo Informal Traders Association chairman Mr Gilbert Chikwata said they welcomed the composition of the Cabinet.

He said the challenge was to start delivering and uplift the lives of people as a way of paying back President Mugabe’s trust in the ministers.

Prominent Masvingo businessman and transporter Mr Julius Marimbire hailed the new Cabinet as a team of tried and tested people who had the requisite experience to take the nation forward and deliver on Zanu-PF election promises.

Minister Mzembi thanked President Mugabe for having continued confidence in him and said the addition of more ministers and deputy ministers from Masvingo would add more impetus to the quest to develop Masvingo.

He challenged the new political leaders in Masvingo to consolidate the gains accrued from Zanu-PF’s crushing victory in the recent elections.

“This is not the time to regress, we need to consolidate the gains made by Zanu-PF in the July 31 elections and we can only do that by fulfilling the people’s aspirations,” said Minister Mzembi.
