THE 2026 Masvingo Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund has been launched with a target to raise US$30 000 that will be distributed to charity.

Mayor Councillor Aleck Tabe said the build-up to this year’s Cheer Fund will reach a crescendo with a fundraising dinner on December 1.

Proceeds from the Fund, an annual event on the ancient city’s mayoral calendar, will be distributed to children and old people’s homes among other places.

Councillor Tabe revealed that several activities have been lined up to raise funds.

“We have lined up several fundraising activities for this year’s Mayor’s Xmas Cheer Fund, including a swimming gala, golf tournament, half marathon, and pool tournament that will all lead up to a fundraising dinner to raise funds,” he said.

“Proceeds will be distributed to beneficiaries in the first week of December as per tradition.”

The Masvingo City mayor called on the business community and ordinary people to support the initiative to help the disadvantaged at Christmas, which is a time of giving.

Proceeds from the fund will be distributed to institutions such as Ngomahuru Psychiatric Hospital, which is one of the oldest such facilities in Zimbabwe.

Mucheke Old People’s Home in the sprawling Mucheke suburb and Alpha Cottages, a children’s home in Eastvale, will also benefit from the proceeds.
