Masvingo plastic waste recycling firm expands manufacture of irrigation equipment

A plastic waste recycling firm in Masvingo, Stable Packaging, has expanded its portfolio of irrigation equipment using recycled plastic waste as the fast growing company seeks to encourage more farmers across the arid province and beyond to venture into irrigation farming in the wake of recurrent droughts caused by climate change.

The plastic waste recycling firm has been growing in leaps and bounds on the back of its aggressive drive to combat waste proliferation while also contributing to aggregate national economic growth through manufacture of various items including irrigation equipment from recycled plastic.

Stable Packaging is now manufacturing dripline pipes and connectors and other irrigation pipes to meet demand for equipment as more farmers shift from over reliance on rain-fed agriculture.

The managing director Mr Farai Marecha, said farmers across Masvingo should leverage on the high density of water bodies and fully exploit them to venture into crop irrigation to mitigate effects of climate change.

A Stable Packaging employee shows some of the irrigation pipe connectors at the firm’s plant in the Masvingo industrial area.

”We have answered the call by President Mnangagwa and the Second Republic that “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo” and we are now manufacturing all types of irrigation pipes including drip lines and their connectors from recycled plastic waste. Masvingo has many water bodies and farmers should take advantage and harness that water for irrigation to mitigate against climate change,” said Mr Marecha.

He added that his firm has pivoted and expanded manufacture of irrigation equipment to pre-empt the anticipated boom in demand as more farmers turn to irrigation farming.
