The cause of death is yet to be identified.

Theatre practitioner Peter Churu confirmed his death.

“I am hearing that the great Doug Hill, for many years the “fairy god mother” of Masvingo theatre at Charles Austin Theatre is no more.

“Doug was a generous man and a trully committed citizen of Masvingo. Many years when friends and I took a play to festival week at Charles

Austin, he took us in to his theatre, made us welcome and stood us drinks in the bar. In 2008 when Zimbabwe Theatre Association presented

Doug with a lifetime award, the man showed remarkable humility and grace by coming up to Jameson Hotel in Harare to receive his award.

You don’t have such longevity in the theatre world without having a certain level of humanity. As the curtain falls on your earthly life Doug, break a leg in the world yonder,” he posted on social media.
