ACTION in the Zifa Eastern Region Division One League went into its eighth week at the weekend with Masvingo United on a good run while police side ZRP Masvingo failed to up their game.The police side travelled to Mutare to face log leaders Buffaloes Juniors FC and lost 4-0.
Former Premier League side Masvingo United hosted gold miners Renco Mine at Mucheke Stadium and extended their winning run to four games with a convincing 3-1 win.
The win saw the Masvingo giants moving up the table from 12th to seventh position with six points separating them from table toppers Buffaloes Juniors FC.
Renco Mine coach Anusa Mwachumwa admitted his side was suffering from injuries.
“We are conceding early goals and these have affected us in the previous two matches. It’s not late for us to recover but our greatest worry is on injuries we are nursing.
“Three of our key players are out and this has affected us greatly,” said Mwachumwa.
Masvingo United gaffer Joel “Waka Waka” Nhumwa said Yuna Yuna were on their way to the top of the standings.
“We are playing good football and we still have areas which must be perfected. Masvingo United mean business and we will leave no stone unturned to return to the Premiership,” said Nhumwa.
Tenax FC beat Ruwa FC 1-0 to move to second position on the table.
Gutu FC hosted Surrey United at Paradise Stadium winning 2-1 in a tightly contested match.
Black Eagles FC however continued with their poor run after they recorded their seventh defeat of the season in a humiliating 4-0 home loss to FC Three Leaves.
