Maswanhise named Scottish player of the month

TAWANDA MASWANHISE has been voted the William Hill Scottish Premiership football Player of the Month for January, extending Motherwell’s dominance of the award for a third consecutive month.

The Zimbabwe international striker picked up his second Player of the Month honour this season, having also claimed the prize in November, after another outstanding run of form in front of goal.

Motherwell coach Jens Berthel Askou praised the 23-year-old’s progress, describing him as a forward who now scores in a variety of ways and continues to sharpen his game.

Maswanhise was in electric form throughout January, scoring six goals in five matches after returning from international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations with Zimbabwe.

He has now found the net in six straight games in all competitions.

The striker has moved to 18 goals for the season, including 13 in 21 Scottish Premiership matches, placing him at the top of the league’s scoring charts.

Maswanhise said he is eager to keep pushing forward as Motherwell target more positive results in the weeks ahead. — Agencies
