MATABELELAND North Province has started preparations for the Zanu-PF Annual People’s Conference which will be held in the resort town of Victoria Falls in December, with special committees having been set up to spearhead the preparations. Speaking during a Provincial Co-ordinating Committee (PCC) meeting in Lupane yesterday, the chairman for the province, Cde Richard Moyo, said they were making headway in the preparations.
“We are the host province this year and we have started preparations for this big event and we have to work together in our various committees so as to make this event a success,” said Cde Moyo.
Cde Thokozile Mathuthu, who is heading the Transport and Social Welfare sub-committee for the conference, said there was a need for members in the host province to assist with whatever they have for the event.
“As the host province we need to have something in place when we meet the national team doing preparations, so we are calling upon people to bring donations be it livestock or anything so that we have a starting point in our pledges,” she said.
She encouraged the leadership to send letters to various stakeholders on time so that they equally prepare for the event.
“Letters have to be sent as soon as possible so that those companies that will donate to us have adequate time to prepare something for us considering that it will be year end. They need time to include us in their budgets,” said Cde Mathuthu.
At the same meeting, Cde Mathuthu warned party members that were using the name of the party to seek assistance for their personal gain, saying it was a serious offence.
“We have some people here who are using the name of the party for personal gain. People are writing letters and even putting letter heads and seeking donations that they use for personal gain. It is illegal and you will get arrested for such acts,” she said.
She said anyone that needed to use the party’s letter head had to seek permission first rather that going around the system.
The provincial secretary for administration, Cde Douglas Khoza, announced that President Mugabe had availed various communication devices that were meant to aid the province.
“We received five desktop computers, five scanners, five printers, one copier and a fax machine from the President and we are grateful for as all our information will be captured and stored properly. We now have less paperwork,” he said.
Cde Khoza said any party information and communication was supposed to be done through the official office instead of the “back door” offices where officials were getting information processed.
He said this would ensure that the office remains with copies of reports or any other documents that involve the party.
