THE Zanu-PF youth leagues in Matabeleland North and South provinces have endorsed President Mugabe and the First Lady to be the party’s First Secretary and women’s league chairperson respectively ahead of an elective congress in December this year. The youths expressed support for the nomination of First Lady, Amai Grace Mugabe to lead the women’s league and be a member of the politburo, taking over from Cde Oppah Muchinguri who is voluntarily stepping down.

Matabeleland North and South provinces as well as Bulawayo held their provincial conferences over the weekend which saw each province coming up with four candidates that will contest for posts during the youth league’s national congress to be held in Harare this week.

During their respective conferences, the provinces came up with a number of resolutions which included endorsing President Mugabe and the First Lady.

Matabeleland North provincial youth league chairperson Cde Tamuka Nyoni said their first resolution was endorsing President Mugabe.

“Our first resolution was endorsing Zanu-PF’s First Secretary Cde Robert Mugabe as the leader ahead of the congress in December. We will stand by him as long as he lives,” he said.

“The second resolution was supporting the nomination of First Lady Amai Grace Mugabe to lead the women’s league and be a member of the politburo.”

Cde Nyoni said the youths also agreed that the National Youth Service should be brought back by re-opening training camps around the country.

“As youths we want the national service framework put in motion. The programme should go ahead because it is in the new constitution and we want to see training centres opened up as soon as possible so that our youths can be patriotic to the country,” he said.

Cde Nyoni said the other resolution was on land.

“As youths we feel that we didn’t benefit from the land redistribution programme. We want land so that we have the means to get empowered,” he said.

Cde Nyoni said the four candidates to represent Matabeleland North were Cdes Aleck Nyakuwara (Nkayi), Wellington Tagarira (Binga), Elizabeth Masuku (Umguza) and Sithandazile Moyo (Tsholotsho).

Matabeleland South youth league chairperson Cde Washington Nkomo said they had also endorsed President Mugabe to lead the party to the next election in 2018.

“As Matabeleland South youth league, we are 100 percent behind President Mugabe and we support the nomination of First Lady Amai Mugabe by the women’s league to lead them,” he said.

Cde Nkomo said the youths also called on the government to nip corruption in the bud.

“Corruption is raising its ugly head in all spheres of the economy and we are calling for zero tolerance to the social ill,” he said.

Cde Nkomo said they also called for an urgent revival of national youth training centres across the country.

“A lot of youths are selling our country and our sovereignty because they have no orientation on the country’s liberation struggle and how freedom fighters like President Mugabe and the late Vice President Joshua Nkomo led the armed struggle that led to our liberation,” he said.

“We therefore want the youth centres re-opened as soon as possible.”
