THE Matabeleland Rugby and Football Board has selected an Under-14 squad for national trials that will take place at Falcon College tomorrow and Saturday. The organisers however said they were not happy with the poor turnout as all high density schools did not turn up.
The national association through Old Mutual will send a team to take part in the Coca-Cola Craven Week tournament in South Africa in June.
Provincial trials were held at Hartsfield Stadium on Monday with just four schools participating.
Falcon College, Christian Brothers College, Petra and Milton are the only schools who managed to raise teams for the trials.
Matabeleland Under-14 coach and manager Simba Dangah said talent was abundant in the region and he was positive the boys will impress the scouts at Falcon.
“We do have talent in the region and I believe the boys are going to impress there but the only hiccup is that we never had time to bond as a team. We needed at least two or three games before the trials,” he said.
Meanwhile, Matabeleland will hold their Under-16 and 18 inter-provincial trials at Hartsfield today which are both part of the Old Mutual development sponsorship.
