The committee that comprises of heads of Government departments, Jomic and representatives of political parties met at the Governor’s boardroom where different sub-committees presented their reports on the progress for the preparations.
The acting Provincial Administrator, Mr Midard Khumalo, chaired the meeting.
Although indications revealed that only $200 has been gathered so far, the committee expressed optimism that come Independence Day, all logistics would be in shape.
The fund-raising committee could not say how much was needed to finance the whole event, saying they were waiting to assess the budget by sub-committees.
The District Development Fund (DDF), Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and the Central Mechanical Engineering Department (CMED) pledged to provide vehicles for transport.
The entertainment committee said different groups have confirmed their participation.
The committee also reported that the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) band had also confirmed participation.
The catering department reported that pledges have been made in kind and that they would soon be moving around to collect the donations.
During discussions the committee reiterated the need to involve local business people and mining companies in the preparations.
The next review meeting would be held on 12 April.
In his remarks Mr Khumalo challenged the sub-committee to work harder and ensure that the celebrations become a success.
He said although it was the Government’s duty to finance national events, Treasury does not have the capacity because of the economic challenges facing the country.
Mr Khumalo said letters have been written to the National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority to provide game meat for the event.
The celebrations would be held at Pelandaba Stadium in the provincial capital, Gwanda.
Independence celebrations are held every year on 18 April, the day when Zimbabwe attained majority rule after defeating the settler government in a fierce armed struggle.
