PREPARATIONS for the Matabeleland North Primary Schools Athletics competitions set for Lupane on 17 March have reached a crescendo with most districts having held their Inter-clusters competitions to build their district teams.
The Nkosilathi Moyo-led Sports Committee is set to host seven primary schools track and field event teams from Binga, Bubi, Hwange, Tsholotsho, Nkayi ,Umguza and Lupane. The event will be the first in fours years after disruptions caused by the Covid -19 pandemic. The last cmbined athletics competitions were held in 2019 at Mosi oa Tunya High School in Victoria Falls, with Marondera ,Mashonaland East set to host the National aborted Competitions.
Addressing members of the executive committee recently, the Provincial chairperson of National Association for Primary Heads (Naph) Matabeleland North, James Daka who is also the Head of Nabushome Primary in Hwange said the major thrust of the Competitions was to complement and fulfil the demands of the updated curriculum on the Annual Science ,Sports and Arts Festivals (Assaf) guidelines whose major scope rests on the acquisition of exit profiles ,knowledge ,skills and identity, among the learners.
Under Assaf, schools must engage in Sporting disciplines, Science Exhibitions, Culinary, Performing Arts and Visual Arts, among an array of other skills searching activities. The most enticing aspect about these events is their well structured programme that stretches for a better part of the term.
Learners get the opportunity to excel in at least one discipline during Cluster, District and Provincial activities.
