Matabeleland swimming squad out to end Mashonaland dominance

THE Matabeleland Amateur Swimming Board has selected the senior team to represent the region at the Zimbabwe National Aquatic Championships in Harare on February 20.
A strong team of 58 will gun for medals in the five-day swimming extravaganza. Cyprianos brothers Denilson, Brendon and Andressious are part of the squad along with the McAllister sisters Jessica and Courtney as the sport continues to be a strong family discipline.

Rising star Andressious is expected to lead the boys’ teams while the ever dependable Avalon Bruce will skipper the girls. Bruce is the only girl travelling in her age category.  Tarrel Cook, Mthabisi Mpofu, Takudzwa Chitima, Liam O’ Hara and Sancia Bravo are some of the athletes expected to shine at the event.

Matabeleland Amateur Swimming Board Gala secretary Nokuthula Cyprianos expressed satisfaction with the team that will represent the region.

She said the team is capable of coming out with a good haul of medals.
“We have good swimmers in our squad, I’m positive we will bring home a number of medals and dominate the competition. We want to give Mashonaland a good run for their money they have been dominating in the past, but we want to end that,” said Nokuthula.

The Matabeleland team will have a kit presentation on  Wednesday next week at the City Pool before they depart for Harare the on the following day.
