Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga has applauded the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) for making it difficult for criminals and terrorists to remain unaccounted for through the use of DNA profiles.
Speaking during the Commissioner-General of Police Funfair, Comm Gen Matanga said, “It is with a deep sense of humility and privilege to address you at this important event, the INTERPOL Centennial Celebrations.”
“As INTERPOL is celebrating 100 years of its founding, this is an opportune time to reflect and learn from set-backs, celebrate victories, and look forward into the future with renewed hope for safer societies,” he said.
The Commissioner-General added that this year’s festivity is made uniquely special by the fact that the force was also celebrating the 2023 Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioner General’s Funfair.
“I am honoured on behalf of the Zimbabwe Republic Police and indeed on my own behalf to join the rest of the world in celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the founding of INTERPOL and International law enforcement cooperation.
“I am also glad to note that Zimbabwe is celebrating 43 years after joining the INTERPOL family in November 1980. This is a milestone achievement for the country as it reflects upon its past experiences and plans for a better future in the fight against transnational organised crimes,” said Commissioner-General Matanga.
He urged members of the public to continue playing an honourable role in getting rid of crime in societies.
“More importantly, the Commissioner General’s Fun Fair has over the years been the life blood and hope for many nearly shattered dreams. In our small way we have been able to extend a benevolent hand by paying schools fees for orphaned and disadvantaged children, primary school up to tertiary institutions.
“We remain alive to the fact that, ridding a society of criminality also means playing an active role in carving model citizens through education amongst other empowerment initiatives.”
