Matiza bounces back in Mash East

Cde Joel Biggie Matiza has reclaimed the chairmanship of ZANU-PF Mashonaland East province after being suspended for the past two years. On Sunday, Cde Matiza presided over provincial coordinating committee (PCC) meeting, which however, resolved to wait for the Extraordinary Congress next month to determine the fate of party members who were allegedly working with G40.

“We have heard what you have suggested but we cannot act now because we are waiting for the President’s speech at Congress. We don’t want to humiliate our President because he advised us to show maturity. He will let us know the way forward at Congress.” He also implored party members to work in harmony.

“At the Special Congress, we are going to endorse our President, Cde Mnangagwa, as the President and First Secretary of the party, as well as our Presidential candidate for the 2018 elections.” Cde Matiza – who raised concern over the low number of people registering as potential voters – challenged party members to mobilise people to register under the new Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) exercise.

Cde Matiza was one of the three provincial chairpersons that were suspended in 2016 together with Cde Ezra Chadzamira (Masvingo) and Kizito Chivamba (Midlands) by the then ZANU-PF political commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere. The trio was purportedly suspended for alleged disobedience and inciting insolence.
