In an interview, yesterday the provincial education director Mr Dan Moyo said he was impressed with the improvement although there was still room for the province to achieve better results.
“We are quite impressed with the Grade Seven results for this year because they show an increase in the number of pupils who passed their examinations,” he said.
Mr Moyo attributed the pass rate to the improved pupil to textbook ratio in schools
“The Education Transition Fund has assisted the situation in that the ratio of the four key subject textbooks to the pupil is now 1:1.
“Regular supervision and inspection of schools on how they teach and their frequency of marking has also had an impact on the pass rate,” said Mr Moyo.
According to the 2012 Grade Seven examinations report Fairview Adventist Primary School is the best school in Bulawayo with a 99,6 percent pass rate followed by Ross Camp with a 99 percent pass rate.
Matabeleland North provincial education director Mrs Boithatelo Mnguni said her province had recorded a three percent im-provement on the 2012 Grade Seven exams.
Efforts to reach Matabeleland South education officials were fruitless, as they were not in the office.
