MATOBO Rural District Council has partnered with a non-governmental organisation, Mother Africa Trust to build Mgadla Primary School in Ward 25.

In an interview, Matobo RDC chief executive officer Mr Elvis Sibanda said two classroom blocks at the school were now at roof level.

“In a bid to improve quality education in primary schools, Matobo RDC is currently networking with some development partners. In this case the council is working with Mother Africa Trust in the construction of Mgadla Primary School,” he said.

Mr Sibanda said council was working to ensure that schools in the area have standard infrastructure that will improve the delivery of education.

“Mother Africa Trust recently sourced four solar panels which they installed at the school last week. This will benefit the school and teachers in the long run. Mother Africa Trust also equipped the borehole that was drilled by Mpilo Foundation earlier last year and installed a solar pump,” he said.

Mother Africa Trust field operations officer Mr Lucky Mathe said his organisation provided building material that included cement, bricks, window frames, door frames, trusses and roofing sheets, among others.

“The classroom blocks are almost complete, we are left with a few touch ups. He said the solar pump was capable of pumping about 6 000 litres of water per hour.

“This can also improve agriculture opportunities for the school and the surrounding community,” he said.

Ward 25 Councillor Sibonginkosi Dube said that the Mgadla community was also playing a part by providing labour while the builder was a local resident working voluntarily.
